Hotels and Accommodation in Crete

Hotels, rooms, studios, apartments & holiday villas in Crete

The island of Crete receives around 3 million visitors per year, making it one of the most significant touristic region of Greece. Consequently Crete's infrastructure has come a long way from the early days of 'Rent rooms' which were no more than a place to sleep with a bed and a sink (if you were lucky) in someone's house.

Over the last 30 years a whole range of accommodation has come into existence. you can still find very simple 'rooms for rent' but the majority of visitors will stay in larger and far more luxurious and modern places.

The bulk of Crete tourists who come on package tours might stay in larger resorts. Those are mainly built along the North coast of the island where the access to Crete's two airports is easier. A growing (and controversial) trend is also to turn these hotels into all inclusive resorts

For those who want a slightly more individualistic approach there are many smaller hotels. Some of those can be very luxurious (especially in the cities) but many just offer clean and simple accommodation with a personal touch as most are family owned.

There is also a good range of self-catering accommodation, mainly studios and small apartments.

If you want anything larger you might want to consider holiday villas (they seem to always be called 'villas', never 'houses' :-). There used to be very few of them but in the last 10 years they have become widely available, prices have become much more reasonable and they are a good option if you have a family or are a small group of friends.
